7 things

In theory, Jennybee tagged me to write seven things about myself that you probably don’t know.

  1. Merlisser was a nickname created by Jennybee over there. Honestly, I have no idea why she did it but it stuck. Or it stuck with her. Most of her friends called me “manwoman” Yeah they kinda sucked and thought college was Junior High Part II.
  2. I can play piano better than the average bear. I started college as a music major with piano as my instrument of choice. “So you still play the piano?” is the line that divides the pre and post college crowd of friends and acquaintences in my life.
  3. I’ve been reading and writing online in some capacity for a long time: before Dooce got Dooced, personal blogs were called “online journals” and when Schuyler was the Chubbin. Remember Kaycee Nicole? those were the days.
  4. Once when I was 3 or 4, I stuck a bobby pin into an electrical outlet. I remember a loud Poof and my fingers were black. I went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. My nose was black. My hair had this crazy looking static electricity thing going on and there was a black ring surrounding the perimeter of my face. It was then and only then that I began to cry. This is actually one of my earliest memories. I blame any and all craziness on this event. UHHUH!!!!
  5. I can’t whistle.
  6. I got inspired to take piano lessons from a Bugs Bunny cartoon
  7. I have seen every episode of Dawson’s Creek, Six Feet Under, Freaks and Geeks, and Veronica Mars. No I do not watch too much TV!! (okay maybe I do)

Hehe, glad to see you finally embraced your Merlisserness! There was no underlying reason why you became Merlisser to me, it just fit somehow. I do that, though. My sister’s high school boyfriend Geoff needed a nick name, and so I looked at him and declared him to be Gub. And so it was.

I never liked that manwoman thing. Besides being unfair, it just reeked of elementary school (where kids called me Boygirl after my mom got me an unfortunate haircut at a barber shop by an old man who didn’t realize I was a little girl until we were leaving). No lyricism to it, anyway. Not like Merlissser, which just rolls off the tongue. : )

Haven’t seen any Dawson’s Creek, but Six Feet and Veronica are among my all-time faves and Freaks and Geeks is on my Amazon wishlist. Great taste!

I can’t whistle, either, and I always envied your piano playing. I took lessons for nine years and can’t play worth a hoot.
